AT THE CONFERENCE
Janice Edwards gave an excellent, heartfelt Keynote Address at the conference, honoring neighborhood activists. Ms. Edwards is Community Relations Director and Host and Producer of "Community Focus" on NBC11/ KNTV.

BUILDING RESOURCEFUL COMMUNITY
Community Foundation Silicon Valley awarded an Elizabeth Anabo BRICC Award to the North Willow Glen Neighborhood Association in 2003. BRICC stands for "Building Resourceful Inspirational Creative Community" - the awards were established in 1994 to recognize groups that build community and revitalize neighborhoods.

TWO AWARDS, TWO HONORABLE MENTIONS
NWGNA was honored as a new and emerging community group. CFSV awarded a BRICC to the established Olinder Neighborhood Association for their courageous battle for resident safety against crime. The McLaughlin and Northside neighborhood associations were also recognized as Honorable Mentions for their community-building work.

GROWING UP, TAKING ACTION
Presenting the Award, Grainger Marburg of CFSV cited the NWGNA's growth from a collection of individual activists focused on neighborhood concerns to an organized group able to make a difference in area-wide and city-wide issues. He also commended the group's mission, motivation and commitment to work with other neighborhoods.

UNSCC LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE
CFSV presents the Awards each fall at the United Neighborhoods of Santa Clara County annual conference for neighborhood leaders. The award is an actual clay brick with a commemorative plaque, plus a cash gift of $1,000.

HONORING ELIZABETH ANABO
Beginning in 2001, the award was renamed to honor the memory of and to commemorate Elizabeth Anabo, a Senior Program Officer at Community Foundation Silicon Valley, who passed away in October 2001. Elizabeth was extremely dedicated to and passionate about neighborhood groups, and made tremendous contributions to them over the four years she worked at the Community Foundation.

NWGNA THANKS...
...the many members who have helped earn this honor for the Association over the years -- plus Ed Rast, who urged participation, and Ken Eklund, who did the paperwork. And our thanks and appreciation to Community Foundation Silicon Valley!
