Alison spoke about the elections but only 10 residents,
out of 600 mailed notices, were present. We then talked at length about
methods of getting better turnout including an association web site
and newsletter. We also talked about reasons that people might not be
as interested in attending and participating and decided on creating
more issue-related communications and outreach. We decided to continue
with the elections as scheduled since the by-laws called for the officers
to serve a one-year term and the last elections were in September 2001.
Alison reported on the median project on Bird Av. Near Bird and 280,
plantings will include: dwarf pink oleanders, creeping white roses,
valley oaks, the four existing eucalyptus trees and the existing as
well as additional redwoods. A winding pattern of plantings designed
to appear, as a riverbed with additional river rock will be included.
Paving stone will be located in part of the central area. Additional
irrigation will be added as needed. The existing Rock Pines and Incense
Cedars will remain with some additional trees as necessary. All of the
ivy will be removed from the median, as it is hazardous to trim due
to the amount of traffic. South of Hull, they will leave the Chinese
Pistache and mulch around it as there is no irrigation present and no
budget to install it. They plan to keep ivy on outer slopes north of
the railroad tracks and work is being prepared for additional irrigation
to prevent brown spots.
The following officers were nominated and were the only candidates running
and were elected by consensus:
President - Alison England
Vice President - Harvey Darnell
Secretary-Treasurer - Tom Smith
City Liaison - Dan Erceg
Community Liaison - Marc Bauman
A secret ballot was held for Members at Large between Debbie Palmer,
Walt Vierra and Gary Jansen. Debbie and Walt were elected the Members
at Large.
The Bird and Auzerais site was involved in litigation, which just concluded.
It is now slated for housing or mixed use if enough properties can be
combined.
The taxicab site is to take in the entire corner of Bird and Virginia
and to include housing only.
A meeting to discuss the newsletter and web site will be held on October
8 at 6:30 PM at the Sangria.
The meeting adjourned around 8:30 pm.
That's all, folks!
