"But one thing still bothers me," Claudia says.

"What?"

"Perdita's diary. And the doctor's journal. Where did the anthropologists get them?"

William points at another crate.

"Another site," you say. He nods.

"More tragedy," Claudia says. He nods again.

"And even more mystery," William declares. "Akrago -- let's leave it for tomorrow, eh? I think we better get some rest."

You and Claudia both hear a little edge in his voice. "You sound nervy," she says. "Any particular reason?"

"I don't like the sound of that wind. And of the ice."

Again you settle down in sleeping bags. All three of you listen to the wind prowl the decks and the ice gnaw the hull.

"Just the pack ice shifting," Claudia speaks up. "Nothing to worry about. Right?" William makes no reply.
