Los Gatos Creek Trail:
Connection at Fuller Avenue!
by Blaze Cairn-Marker
January 2004

In January the city installed a 10-foot wide pedestrian bridge in North Willow Glen. The bridge connects the corner of Gregory Street and Fuller Avenue with Lonus Court and the trail on the other side of the creek. It's all part of the trail plan for the area - the extension of the Los Gatos Creek Trail to downtown.

When completed (sometime in 2007) the trail will run all the way from Los Gatos to downtown San Jose.

The bridge will include benches, a water fountain, and irrigated landscaping.

Ken Yeager, the Councilmember for District 6, is a big proponent of trails. To get his updates on trail development, he invites people to sign up to be
on his e-mail list,
or call (408) 277-5166.

The City has also made strides in preserving the old rail line cutting southeast past Palm Haven as a trail. This trail will connect the Los Gatos Creek Trail with the trail under development along the Guadalupe River.

1. The bridge arrived in two sections, prefabricated in Minnesota.

2. The contractor used a crane to place the two bridge halves together
on the Gregory Avenue side. A second crane was brought in to help lift
the 40-ton bridge into position.

3. The two cranes lifted the bridge and extended it out over Los Gatos Creek.

4. Thirty-ton cranes are all very well, but in the end it always seems
that everything depends on a bunch of guys with crowbars!

5. So much easier than wading.
